Acrylic glass is the colloquial name for the plastic material polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). We use exclusively the – in our opinion – best variety for picture glazing: "Plexiglas Gallery UV100" manufactured by Evonik.

Our Alu 6 photo frames in the size 13 x 18 cm are not only suitable for wall-hanging, but can also be positioned at an inclination angle of approximately 20 degrees with an acrylic stand-up device as a standard feature.

A shadow gap frame made of aluminium, 2 mm wide, 30 mm deep. Developed specifically for the Dibond presentation, made to measure to the nearest millimetre.

"AluNox" combines the optical properties of polished stainless steel with the advantages of aluminium. The anodised material is easy to take care of, resistant to household cleaners and UV rays and non-sensitive to fingerprints.

In the anodic oxidation treatment, the uppermost metal layer of the aluminium is transformed. There are significant differences in quality between anodised surfaces. Only a few companies are in the run for the production of our high-quality aluminium profiles.

You want “glare-free” glass? Then the antireflective glass varieties II, IV, VI and Mirogard are a possibility for you. More information about this subject can be found here. 

Float glass and plexiglass are available alternatively with a glossy finish or a one-sided finely structured surface. The latter version is commonly called antireflective glass.

The advantage of our antireflective glass varieties: The glass is only matted on one side and can therefore be used with a gloss effect again, simply by turning the glass over.

Plexiglass attracts dust – a well-known phenomenon. The special cleaning and care agent for plexiglass made by Burnus has an antistatic effect and is a useful aid to reduce the maintenance effort of frames with Gallery plexiglass.

Magnetic frames by HALBE are prepared with punched holes for single-point or two-point attachment, depending on the frame format. On request also available with picture safety device or with a customer-specific hole pattern according to drawing.

Fire protection picture frame by HALBE with an official test certificate. Meets the requirements of the material class B1 pursuant to DIN 4102/1.

Cardboards for placement of the picture, also suitable for the do-it-yourself cutting of passepartouts. They are often called background cartons because they are placed behind the picture (for various reasons).

Our Distance magnetic frames are by default equipped with a laminated cardboard. Available in the same colours as our passepartouts.

The base element of the magnetic frame is the "rear panel" of the frame. It offers much more than just the hanging holes. Many customers appreciate the individual possibilities, e.g. continuous metal rear panel with hole pattern according to drawing and RAL coating, special hooks, height-adjustable wall spacers, and much more.

A cardboard "frame" around the picture. The cut-out in the cardboard is generally made with a 45 degree bevel cut, thus the designation "bevel cut passepartout".

A neo-German buzzword for products which are fabricated according to the customer’s specifications and which are therefore non-returnable.

CAD data facilitate the computer-assisted production and work planning. If you enquire about Individual products or want to have them made by us, then dwg or dxf is the best format for the data interchange. Questions of detail are always best discussed with the HALBE production management team.

The material of our cardboards and passepartouts is buffered against air pollutants with 3 to 4% calcium carbonate pursuant to DIN 970.

A special element used when you are unable or do not want to attach the gallery rail to the wall, and the gallery rail has to be bolted to the ceiling instead. Not as neatly invisible as the wall mounting, but an option nevertheless.

As the name already says: the "classic" among the HALBE magnetic frames, alternatively made from aluminium or solid wood. For picture framing with or without passepartout and without spacer to the glass.

To clean float glass, common glass cleaners are recommended. For plexiglass, we offer a special antistatic plastic cleaning and care agent made by Burnus. To clean Mirogard, the manufacturer Schott recommends a commercially available glass cleaner and a soft cloth (www.schott.de).

Clear glass is a float glass with low iron oxide content with a very high light transmission and colour-neutral view-through. In contrast to standard float glass, it does not have a greenish intrinsic colour. If one has a sensitive feeling for colour reproduction properties, the glass variety "Optiwhite" float glass (V, VI) is the top choice.

Glass variety made by another manufacturer. As optical interference antireflective glass, HALBE exclusively uses Mirogard in various types by the market leader Schott Glas.

The magnetic frame by HALBE is the ideal clip-on picture frame for all those people who not only want to frame their pictures comfortably without tools from the front, but who also want to exchange pictures quickly and easily.

Glass varieties differ for the trained eye in the quality of the colour reproduction. The Optiwhite glass varieties V and VI as well as Mirogard have the best colour reproduction properties. It is so-called clear glass. Float glass I and II have a minimal greenish intrinsic colour, plexiglass makes a white paper area, for example, appear slightly darker. Our LED magnetic frames can also be equipped with concealed power supply units instead of a plug-in power supply unit. Detailed specifications and data sheets are available on request.

To the Conservo magnetic frame

The following rules apply in general: A shiny glass or an optical interference antireflective glass offers the best contour sharpness when viewing an image. One-sided finely matted glass types reduce the contour sharpness slightly (depending on the variety). Advantage: The reflections are reduced.

For the Conservo magnetic frame, we use the corrugated cardboards made by Klug Conservation in lieu of the KapaFrame hard foam board. Certificates for the material can be found in the download centre in the category Conservo Magnetic Frame.

A popular option: We supply our magnetic frames on request with a mirror instead of glass. Accurate to the nearest millimetre, with a choice of all profiles, at an attractive price.

The modern measurement technology allows a monitoring of the climate/air humidity in the Protect magnetic frame. This is indispensable for the documentation and control during the transportation of framed artworks in connection with loans between two exhibition locations, for example.

To the Protect magnetic frame

This is the most frequently used luminous colour of the LEDs in our LED magnetic frames. As an alternative, the luminous colours neutral-white (5000 K) and warm-white (3000 K) are available.

Globally registered trademark of the company Grieger (www.grieger-online.de). Diasec is a special process for the permanent bonding of picture or slide material with high-quality acrylic glass, it stands for picture sealing at the very highest level.

Most standard formats in our programme are shipped with a resealable cardboard package. You can find out from your HALBE team whether your desired format has such a "die-cut packaging" or a multi-part disposable packaging with adhesive strips.

In digital printing, the image goes – explained in simple terms – directly from the file/computer to a printing machine and there is no fixed mechanical or printing plate. Digital printing exists in a great variety of quality standards for the most diverse requirements. HALBE generally does not print images, but focuses on the manufacturing of high-quality picture frames.

In DIN 4102, materials are classified in different material classes depending on their fire behaviour. The HALBE B1 magnetic frame was officially tested and meets the requirements of the material class B1 (DIN 4102-1) as a flame retardant product.

dots per inch. Indicates the dot density and thus the level of detail of a print. A transparency for the LED magnetic frame should never have less than 300 dpi, in our opinion. Your professional printing services provider has the necessary expert knowledge.

If you want to protect your frame with the picture safety device BS 4 against theft, you need the special BS 4 drilling template for convenient assembly.

dwg is an interchange format of the CAD software AutoCAD. The abbreviation was derived from the English word "drawing".

Like dwg, dxf is an interchange format for drawings, suitable for the data transfer between AutoCAD and various other CAD programmes.

On the LED magnetic frame, the light of the individual LEDs is laterally led into a special light dispersion panel and distributed across the area. This makes a small overall depth and a high degree of efficiency possible.

In case of high production runs, an embossing in the metal area of the Passepartout magnetic frame or in the cardboard surface of the passepartout can be realised.

Single-layer safety glass has an increased break and impact resistance. If the glass should break due to high stress, it will split into small particles without sharp edges.

If you want a guaranteed delivery of your goods 1 day after the shipping date, several services are available. Depending on the size of the shipment, additional costs for the "overnight service" from 7 to 15 € plus VAT will be incurred (within Germany, excluding islands). Please contact us for this service.

For each product, you will find a dimensional drawing with all important measurement indications in mm. The exterior format varies, with the same glass size, as a function of the profile cross-section. Important in the area of store construction, for example.

An acid-free, non-ageing specialty paper made by the company Neschen for the mending and self-adhesive fastening of pictures. You can find it in the HALBE accessories range.

In the context of DIN 4102, sometimes the term fire protection class B1 is used, at other times the term material class B1. Either term generally has the same meaning.

An element for the mounting of magnetic frames to gallery rails or ropes, especially developed for HALBE. Very resilient, best in combination with a stainless steel rope.

In the float glass process, the glass is drawn on a tin bath. This creates a perfectly distortion-free glass surface. The manufacturing process is very elaborate and requires plants with a length of about 500 to 1000 metres.

By now replaced by the LED technology in our illuminating frames. If you need replacement illuminants, you can obtain fluorescent tubes from Osram and/or its distribution partners in the specialised electrical trade or from us.

The folding dimension is slightly larger than the glass format of the picture frame. When ordering the frame, it is not relevant, however, it is an important dimension for optimum fitting accuracy in the production.

Here, the passepartout has a cardboard as rear panel. It is attached to the back of the passepartout by means of an adhesive strip. Now the passepartout can be "folded open", similar to a book. A favoured method of picture arrangement depending on the type of presentation, also ideal for archiving purposes.

Also called picture rail. Very popular when picture frames are to be rearranged frequently and no holes in the wall are desired.

GLS is our service provider for all national parcel shipments with a total weight of up to approx. 40 kg. Bigger shipments will be delivered by a freight forwarder.

On the Display magnetic frame, the aluminium profile frame and the plexiglass are connected by means of special retaining clips and can be handled as a unit by one person. We call it the Glasfix system.

The glass format is – with a few exceptions – the order format of a magnetic frame. Exact information with a dimensional drawing can be found with the corresponding product.

The golden ratio is regarded as the ideal proportion for a harmonious overall impression, for example when determining the margin widths of a passepartout. In our online shop, you can select and preview the "golden ratio" as one of the options for the positioning of the image cut-out.

In a manner of speaking, the grain is the texture, the visible surface of the wood. The lively surface of a wood frame emphasizes the natural character of a solid wood frame and is not to be perceived as a blemish.

The KapaFrame hard foam board is produced especially for HALBE. In addition to the white cover layer, it features outstanding planarity and the successfully completed PAT test by the IPI Institute Rochester.

The LED magnetic frame is the product of choice for shining light through slides. To illuminate pictures, we recommend the LightLight system by Buschfeld Design, for example.

Frequent mistake when ordering passepartouts: Please never indicate the size of your picture, but the desired visible dimension of the “window” in your passepartout.

Legal framework conditions for the international trade of goods. You can agree with us on different clauses for shipments to foreign destinations. Generally, we deliver CPT (carriage paid to), that is, we calculate the freight costs to the agreed upon place of destination for you.

By default, every magnetic frame has an individual cardboard package which is not suitable for parcel shipment as a single frame. For a surcharge, a drop-tested "Secure-Box" can be ordered for each individual magnetic frame. Prices available on request.

The Image Permanence Institute (IPI) in Rochester/New York can determine the effect of materials on photographic material in a test procedure. If a product passes the PAT test, this is a very important quality aspect.

Crucial criteria for the ageing resistance of papers are defined in this standard.

The KapaFrame hard foam board in the base element of our magnetic frames has been developed especially for HALBE and PAT-tested by the IPI Institute Rochester. The board has a high planarity with an acid-free white cover layer on the front and back, as well as an aluminium barrier coat for protection against humidity.

The picture safety device BS SL (keyhole) is the alternative to BS 4 or to bolting the frame to the wall (BS 3). The frame can only be taken off the wall by someone who knows the right turn. If a product can be ordered with the BS SL, this option is indicated under "details" at the respective product.

One of the most important suppliers of high-quality and economical solutions for the preservation of objects of cultural value in archives, museums and libraries. HALBE uses selected cardboards and corrugated cardboard, depending on the product.

The knurled screw is used to hang magnetic frames on ropes. The more convenient option is the HALBE fixing holder which is continuously adjustable and automatically locks in place on the rope at the desired height.

Whether you should laminate your picture or not essentially depends on the paper quality. The magnetic frame as such ensures a very good flatness thanks to the high planarity of the KapaFrame hard foam board in the base element/rear panel. As a rule, reasons for the “undulation” of a picture must be searched for in the material properties of the picture, or are caused by fluctuations of the air humidity in the room.

The core element of our LED magnetic frames: a 10 mm strong plexiglass panel with a lasered light routing grid and laterally integrated LED strips.

The LED magnetic frame can also be used without picture motif, for example as a wall luminaire in different luminous colours, made to measure to the nearest millimetre from a 15 x 15 cm overall size up to an illuminated area of 100 x 200 cm.

The LED area lighting in the LED magnetic frame has a special dot matrix in the surface which is adapted by laser to the size of the frame.

LED magnetic frames are offered with a choice of the following luminous colours: 6500 Kelvin (daylight-white), 5000 Kelvin (neutral-white) or 3000 Kelvin (warm-white).

An invention by Hubert and Heinrich Halbe. With words, this cannot nearly be described as well as in our video.

We work accurately and therefore do not use centimetres as unit of measurement. Please pay attention to this when ordering. This leads to misunderstandings more often than one would think...

"Mirogard" by Schott is the epitome among the optical interference antireflective glass varieties and still the first choice for picture glass in museum-level quality.

This is the result of the further advancement of the classic Mirogard: the same properties, but with a "plus" in terms of UV protection (approx. 84%).

First choice in the museum: Mirogard as a laminated safety glass version with 99% UV protection, achieved by bonding two glass panes with an additional film layer.

The mitre is the corner joint of the frame. There are industry experts who claim to be able to recognise a magnetic frame by HALBE on the basis of the perfect workmanship of the four corners of a frame. Thank you very much!

The term as such is not concretely defined in any standard; in any case, what is meant are cardboards of the highest possible quality and properties for museum use, particularly under the aspect of conservation.

Frequently used colloquial term for optical interference antireflective glass.

A medium luminous colour which appears neither blueish or yellowish. It is perceived as "neutral" by the human eye.

Newton rings can become visible when two smooth surfaces lie on top of each other, for example in the case of a high-gloss photographic paper and glossy float glass. Hint: Photographers like to use the one-sided finely frosted Optiwhite float glass for paper/pictures with these properties and place it with the structured surface on the paper. Then the Newton rings no longer appear and the viewer has the effect of a shiny, not reflection-reducing view. If you would like to try out the effect, we will gladly send you a glass sample free of charge.

"Non-reflecting" glass in the strict sense is the optical interference antireflective Mirogard glass by Schott. It is colloquially often called museum glass because of its outstanding quality. In the case of one-sided finely structured or frosted glass panes, the term antireflective glass is more appropriate than non-reflecting glass.

The term passepartout cut-out with "offset" is used when the lower margin of the passepartout is larger than the upper margin. Apart from the functions "golden ratio" and "optical centre", you can also determine and preview your preferred custom size to the nearest millimetre in the frame configurator of the online shop before placing your order.

If the picture cut-out in a passepartout is centred, it often looks as if the picture is placed a little too far down in the frame. If one uses the optical centre, the lower margin of the passepartout is somewhat wider than the upper margin. To the eye it then seems to be centred. In the frame configurator of the online shop, you can easily try out the function "optical centre".

The "Mirogard" glass is produced in one of the world’s most advanced dip-coating lines for optical coatings. Optical-interference antireflective glass is as good as invisible under normal viewing conditions. Qualification: If there is a window opposite to the picture, for example, then we recommend to use "Optiwhite" (glass VI) instead, which is very finely frosted on one side, as an alternative for reducing reflections.

"Optiwhite" float glass is also called clear glass. It is a float glass with low iron oxide content with a very high light transmission and colour-neutral view-through. In contrast to standard float glass, it does not have a greenish intrinsic colour. The prime glass variety if one has a sensitive feeling for colour reproduction properties.

The order format is generally the glass format. Exact information with a dimensional drawing can be found next to the corresponding product.

Every HALBE frame is individually packed. You will not receive goods in unprotected "collective packaging"-type cartons or on pallets from us. If you need individual shipment packages appropriate for freight forwarders, packages with labelling or other types of special packaging, then this is also possible as an individual solution.

We have been asked repeatedly why the costs for packaging and shipping are relatively high compared to "catalogue/mail-order companies": We do not add high surcharges to the unit prices of our magnetic frames, but their shipping requires very careful packaging for safe transportation to you.

The Photographic Activity Test (PAT) examines the effect of materials on photographic material in a special test procedure. The Image Permanence Institute (IPI) in Rochester/New performs this test under clearly defined conditions and is considered "the" test authority concerning this subject among experts. Our cardboards and the KapaFrame hard foam board have successfully passed the PAT test – an important quality factor.

An alternative to the stainless steel rope when hanging magnetic frames on gallery rails. It is less noticeable in front of the wall, almost transparent, a little "milky", less resilient than stainless steel due to the property of the material.

Term for a wall where pictures are hung closely together, with little distance between the frames. In addition to the individual images, the mass of pictures itself is impressive.

Plexiglass is the brand name for the acrylic glass of Evonik. Plexiglass Gallery UV100 is regarded as the best option for picture glazing with acrylic glass. We use it exclusively for our plexiglass varieties III (glossy) and IV (antireflective).

In case of a power consumption of up to 15 watt, the LED magnetic frames are by default delivered with a plug-in power supply unit. For larger LED magnetic frames, an external power supply unit must be taken into account during planning. All information about this will be supplied when you fill out our inquiry form for your desired LED magnetic frame.

On the Display magnetic frame, the base element or rather the rear panel is bolted to the wall. Integrated into it is the specially developed Posterfix module. The poster is simply inserted from below and fastened automatically by means of a clamping mechanism.

In powder coating, an electrically conductive material, e.g. aluminium, is coated with powder paints. The powder fuses together on the surface, so to speak, as a result of the baking temperature, and a uniform coloured surface is created which generally produces a more resistant surface than a wet painting process.

In the production of our solid wood frames, a solid wood strip is overlaid with fine veneer sheets. This process is economical and resource-saving at the same time, since precious woods are consciously protected in this way.

PROSorb is a silica gel which is used for stabilising the relative humidity (RH) in the Protect magnetic frame. It is appropriate for a range from 35 to 60% RH. Detailed information is available from HALBE or from the manufacturer (www.cwaller.de).

If you order your magnetic frames with plexiglass, we do not remove the protective film applied on both sides for the optimal protection of the plexiglass during transport.

Is often promised. For us at HALBE, quality is the benchmark per se, starting from the selection of materials to the selection of the parcel shipment partner.

More than 200 "coloured" tones are defined in the RAL colour chart. With the exception of particular colour shades, our magnetic frames can be coated on request in special colours pursuant to RAL Classic.

We offer gallery rails as well as different "hooks"/holders for hanging pictures on ropes. You can find extensive information and illustrations for this in the category Products – Accessories.

Safety class has an increased break and impact resistance and is available in the varieties ESG and VSG. Under high mechanical stress, ESG will split into small particles without sharp edges. VSG consists of two glass panes with an interjacent film which prevents the glass splinters from flying around.

"Mirogard" by Schott is the epitome among the optical interference antireflective glass varieties and still the first choice for picture glass in museum-level quality.

Not a magnetic frame, but a prepared self-adhesive aluminium frame for the presentation of Diasec, Dibond and similar materials. The Alu 2/30 profile is only 2 mm wide and 30 mm deep and available as individual item in a natural matt anodised finish.

The supporting portion of the base element, i.e. the rear panel of our magnetic frames. It is custom made in accordance with your ordered product and is an important part of the frame for dimensional accuracy of the highest degree.

The base element of the magnetic frame is a steel sheet angular frame made of Aluzink material. Close dimensional tolerances ensure optimum accuracy of fit and are therefore the basis for a perfect functioning of the magnetic frame for many years.

Term for the spacer in our Distance magnetic frames. The strip is made of aluminium, magnetically removable, optionally 10 or 20 mm high, available in different colours.

PROSorb is a silica gel which is used for stabilising the relative humidity (RH) in the Protect magnetic frame. It is appropriate for a range from 35 to 60% RH. Detailed information is available from HALBE or from the manufacturer (www.cwaller.de).

An antistatic cleaning agent is available especially for the cleaning and care of plexiglass. For streak-free results, we recommend the matching special care cloth. Both can be found in the product category “Accessories”.

From a quantity of 1 unit, you can order your magnetic frames made to measure, accurate to the nearest millimetre, in the XL version even up to a size of 2 x 3 metres. In addition to this option, we have almost 40 standard formats in our production programme.

For optimum protection and convenient handling at the same time, our picture safety devices can be locked by means of various special keys. Please pay attention to the order information regarding the specific versions.

To hang our magnetic frames on gallery rails; available in different lengths, rope diameter 1.5 mm, with loop or cobra hook.

Our small photo frame has a polished acrylic stand-up device as standard equipment to set up the frame in a standing position. For professional use, e.g. in store construction, a stainless steel stand-up display with thread is available as an alternative.

For our photographic laboratory and digital printing partners, our business unit HALBE Individual fabricates self-adhesive suspension brackets in different variants for the suspension of Dibond boards.

Tegla is the manufacturer of our float glass (glass I, II) and Optiwhite float glass (glass V, VI). In the area of so-called technical glasses, which include picture glass, the name Tegla stands for premium quality. Outstanding is the company’s competency in the area of etched glass surfaces for the "antireflective" float glass varieties. We would gladly send you samples free of charge.

As a standard, the Protect magnetic frame comes equipped with a thermo-hygrometer, on which the air humidity and temperature inside the closed Protect magnetic frame can be read out through a transparent window from the rear panel. Modern data logger technology is available for the professional monitoring of the climate in the frame.

For a perfect cut of our KapaFrame hard foam boards, we do not use a saw, instead we do the cutting by means of a Swiss waterjet.

In the production of our solid wood frames, a solid wood strip is overlaid with fine veneer sheets. This process is economical and resource-saving at the same time, since precious woods are intentionally protected in this way.

If it has to be extra large, we have a special solution, too. The profiles Alu 14 XL and Alu 18 XL are available in combination with various magnetic frame types, up to a maximum size of 2 x 3 metres.
