Protect Magnetic Frame

For delicate artworks, the fluctuating relative humidity is the most serious damage factor. For this reason, storage, transportation and the climatic optimisation of the exhibition conditions are associated with considerable expense and effort. With our new Protect magnetic frame, this problem is a thing of the past because its technology provides for constant humidity inside the frame so that the frame is totally independent of the ambient humidity. The ideal solution for exhibition spaces where fluctuating air humidity is difficult and expensive to control.
Thanks to the new technology, a defined climate (air humidity) is encased and kept stable inside the frame. Three buffer components are decisive for the permanent humidity control inside the frame:
As a standard, the Protect magnetic frame comes equipped with a thermo-hygrometer which can be read out from the rear of the frame. Available as an option is a short-range radio system data logger which allows a detailed analysis of the climate history.

- A pH-neutral corrugated cardboard which has a high water holding capacity and facilitates an optimal air circulation on account of its particular honeycomb structure.
- The special silica gel PRO-SORB which responds very rapidly to humidity fluctuations and which can both absorb and release water vapour.
- A pH-neutral background cardboard whose water holding capacity offers an additional buffer function.
As a standard, the Protect magnetic frame comes equipped with a thermo-hygrometer which can be read out from the rear of the frame. Available as an option is a short-range radio system data logger which allows a detailed analysis of the climate history.
Profile selection
Float glass I, II
II Float glass, matt / glossy, thickness 2.4 mm
Float glass is the first choice if there are no special requirements regarding the glass quality. If contour sharpness is important, a glass with a glossy finish on both sides is recommended. On the other hand, matt finished glass reduces reflections. A combination of both properties is offered by our Optiwhite float glass VI frosted on one side or by the new Mirogard®.
Plexiglass Gallery® UV 100 III, IV
IV antireflective, matt / glossy, with protective film, thickness 3.0 mm
Plexiglass is especially shatter-proof and also protects delicate exhibits against ultraviolet radiation by virtue of its low light transmission. The disadvantages of plexiglass are its low scratch resistance and the somewhat more laborious care with a special antistatic cleaner. The appropriate cleaning agents can be found in our range of accessories.
Optiwhite float glass V, VI
VI Optiwhite float glass, matt / glossy, thickness 2.6 mm
The right choice if a very good, neutral colour reproduction is required. With the Optiwhite float glass VI which is very finely frosted on one side, you have the additional advantage that the contour sharpness of the picture is visibly better than in the case of the antireflective varieties made of float glass or plexiglass.
Mirogard®
Mirogard® is a specialty glass with optical-interference antireflective coating on both sides. This means: It is colourless, free of annoying reflections and therefore as good as invisible. One aspect to keep in mind with this high-quality glass type: There should be no distracting effects of light in the surrounding area, such as a window on the opposite side of the picture.

Picture safety device 4
The picture safety device BS 4 is appropriate for:
Classic magnetic frame, Distance magnetic frame, Passepartout magnetic frame and the new Protect magnetic frame.
Note: The Protect magnetic frame has an eccentric locking system as a standard feature. The picture safety device BS 1 or BS 1 R is therefore not required.

The picture safety device BS SL is appropriate for:
Display magnetic frame, LED magnetic frame, B1 magnetic frame, Conservo magnetic frame and the new Protect magnetic frame.
Insert frame D5
Important: When ordering the frame, please always indicate the overall insertion depth required for picture, insert frame and, if applicable, a passepartout or other materials that you want to insert into the frame, for example:
picture = 0.5 mm thick, passepartout = 3.0 mm thick, insert frame = 5 mm thick.
In this example, the insertion depth to be ordered for your magnetic frame amounts to 8.5 mm.

Three buffer components are crucial for the permanent humidity control inside the frame: a corrugated cardboard, the special silica gel “PRO-SORB” and a background cardboard.
The acid-free, non-ageing corrugated cardboard of the “Klug Conservation” brand has a high water-holding capacity and facilitates an optimal circulation of the air inside thanks to its special wave structure. There are cavities in this corrugated cardboard into which small pouches with “PRO-SORB” are inserted. This is a new silica gel which can absorb and release water vapour very fast. A high-quality background cardboard offers an additional buffer function. Furthermore, the Protect magnetic frame has a specially developed closure system: innovative eccentric locks which perfectly compensate for different insert thicknesses and ensure the impermeability towards the glass.
In order to be able to check the humidity inside the frame at any time, the data are measured by an integrated thermo-hygrometer which can easily be operated from the outside. The electronic measuring device is included in the Protect magnetic frame as a standard accessory. As an option, a data logger can be used which analyses the entire climate history and whose data can be transmitted via radio signal and be read out with the help of corresponding software.
