keeps the humidity inside constant.
Relative humidity is the most serious source of possible damage to sensitive paper artworks. It often means considerable additional expense for storage, transport and climatic optimisation of the exhibition conditions. With the development of our new PROTECT magnetic frame, however, these problems are now a thing of the past. It's an innovation that ensures a constant level of humidity inside the frame. The frame is completely independent of the outside humidity and opens up unprecedented design freedom – without any restrictions on space or time. It is the ideal solution for exhibition rooms where fluctuating humidity would be difficult and costly to regulate. The PROTECT magnetic frame is entirely in harmony with the clear, timeless design of our classic frames. Here too, you can choose between high-grade aluminium and solid wood profiles to suit your exhibition.
The new technology ensures that a defined climate is kept and remains stable within the frame. Three buffer components are critical to permanent humidity control inside the frame:
- a pH-neutral corrugated cardboard that offers a high water storage capacity and whose special honeycomb structure ensures optimum air circulation;
- the special silica gel PRO-SORB, which reacts very quickly to fluctuations in humidity and can both absorb and release water vapour;
- a pH-neutral background cardboard made in the prestigious Hahnemühle factory, which provides an additional buffer function with its water-storing properties.
The system is complemented by an aluminium sheet that acts as a diffusion barrier on the rear as well as a peripheral seal, rounding the frame off perfectly. They prevent the ingress of moisture, dust and dirt from the outside. Move the mouse over the individual frame elements in the drawing to discover the new PROTECT magnetic frame in detail.
We subjected the innovative technology of the PROTECT magnetic frame to extreme testing. In the test, the PROTECT magnetic frame was preconditioned to 50%, fitted with temperature and moisture sensors and installed in a conditioning cabinet. The frame was then exposed to extreme climatic fluctuations over a test period of six days. The conditioning cabinet was set to extremes of humidity ranging from 20% RH to 100% RH every 24 hours with a recording interval of 5 minutes.
The result: A constant relative humidity in the interior of the frame!
- No restrictions on the location and duration of the exhibition
- Operating costs are cut because heating and air-conditioning systems do not need to be used continuously
- No restriction on the number of visitors
- Constant humidity ensures optimum storage conditions
- No dust deposits within the frame
- No need for expensive climate control systems
- Non-polluting, pH-neutral materials ensure optimal framing
- Heterogeneous exhibitions can be held without a problem
- Proven magnetic frame system allows fast and easy framing from the front
