Framing of pictures on different carrier materials

Showcasing masterful photographs with specialty paper and select framing

Kirchen, November 6, 2019 - Unique details and a sense for the right moment make the magic of great photographs. For the reproduction of highly sophisticated motifs, renowned photographers often opt for exquisite FineArt papers, whose different surface textures lend the images a special value. As diverse as works of art are, so are the presentation possibilities. Whether on canvas, aluminium dibond, glossy or matt FineArt paper - it is only through the right choice of framing that a picture can unfold its full radiance. It is worth investing some time in the subject of framing, because the range of materials, profiles, colours and glasses is large. The professionals at HALBE-rahmen (www.HALBE-rahmen.de) know exactly the advantages and disadvantages of the individual framing types.

The first impression decides

Hardly anyone can capture the fascination and diversity of our world as breathtakingly as a professional photographer. The feeling for the right moment is decisive in determining whether a photograph radiates a certain magic on the viewer. Photographers who are looking for something special and want to get the best out of their pictures can choose from a wide range of high-quality and unique FineArt papers, fabrics and materials on which they can have their pictures reproduced using the digital printing process. Unique surface structures, such as baryta, glossy or canvas papers, give the motifs a three-dimensionality. Heavy FineArt papers based on cotton cellulose, for example, give the viewer an additional feeling of value due to their high grammage and special feel.

Framing supports the aesthetic effect

In addition to the careful selection of the carrier material, the picture frame is an essential component of artistic expression and affects the radiance of a work of art. Digital photos printed on Alu-Dibond, Forex or canvas or prints mounted behind acrylic glass are sometimes presented frameless. This type of presentation is often not worthy of the high-quality photograph. This is because a good frame brings the picture into focus and makes it stand out from its surroundings. By the suitable choice of the frame border, -colour and passepartout-cutout the frame supports the picture in its effect.

Framing behind glass protects

Of utmost importance to any art lover when choosing framing is the protection of the original from damage and dirt, so framing behind glass is often preferred. Anti-reflective glass, also known as museum glass, is recommended so that the viewer can enjoy an unrestricted view of the print. Magnetic frames from HALBE offer the necessary all-round protection for both small and large works of art - their special frame construction not only protects them from dust and mechanical damage, but also skilfully sets the scene for pictures.

Interchangeable frames - versatile

For art connoisseurs who like to change the motif from time to time and have only a limited wall space available for the presentation of their works of art, a clip-on frame is the ideal choice. Whether wood or aluminium - there are no limits to the variety. But not all clip-on frames are the same - there are great differences in quality, both in the profile and the glass used, as well as in the general construction of the frame.

Framing pictures is often very time-consuming and requires a lot of intuition. Thanks to a special innovation from HALBE, replacing a photo is done in no time at all. The magnetic frame principle makes it easy and convenient to frame a picture from the front - without turning it over or using tools. Thanks to the magnetic opening and closing of the frame, high-quality FineArt prints can be set in scene in a flash. In addition, the frame is provided with corresponding recesses for safe removal without fingerprints on the glass or picture.

Framing behind glass with passepartout recommended

FineArt papers ensure brilliant and vivid printing results. Regardless of whether a motif was printed on a matt, glossy or metallic paper - when framing valuable FineArt prints behind glass, the use of a passepartout is recommended. It is not only a classic stylistic device, but also prevents high-quality prints from sticking to the glass and forming so-called "Newton's rings", which look like water stains. "We only use certified museum quality mounts from KLUG Conservation. These not only help the work of art to a valuable appearance, but are also resistant to aging, free of woody fibers, highly light-resistant and actively protect the artwork," says David Halbe, Managing Director of HALBE-Rahmen GmbH.

Free-floating framing - a whole new visual experience

Especially with artworks on structured or wavy paper or with torn edges, a free-floating frame is the absolute eye-catcher, i.e. the picture is smaller than the frame and ideally floats with an additional distance to the back wall in a Spacer framealso called an object or 3D frame. By fixing the picture on the back, the illusion of floating is created. This type of presentation ensures that the special feel of the selected paper is emphasised.
