HALBE-frames knows the subtleties of a professional picture presentation

Kirchen, Feb. 11, 2022 - Walls without pictures look lifeless. Whether photography, watercolor or graphics - pictures are the icing on the cake to give a home or business premises the desired coziness. For a successful arrangement, certain rules must be observed so that the "jewels" can develop their full radiance. The staging of a "soloist" requires just as much tact as the hanging of a series or collection. In general, everything is allowed - pictures can also be hung or placed where you do not expect them. With the right pictures, the appropriate wall design and an eye-catching wall color, the "gallery effect" is guaranteed. HALBE -rahmen (www.HALBE-rahmen.de/bilderrahmen/) knows that arranging works of art requires both craftsmanship and artistic sensitivity.

The arrangement determines the effect of pictures

Every hanging of pictures is an aesthetic design act that decisively influences the effect of a room. In general, when staging small and large works of art, the focus is on creating a harmonious feeling in the room. When choosing the right place, the surroundings must be taken into account. On an extravagant wallpaper, it is almost impossible for any picture to stand out. Large format art is there to set accents and requires space. Unusual room dimensions require more time in picture selection and placement. In open spaces with large wall areas, there are no limits to your imagination.

Skillfully arrange pictures

A special picture can easily be staged as a "soloist" alone, so that it has the "aha effect" on its side. For a special effect, choose, for example, a strong or dark wall color in a shade of blue or gray, which makes the picture even more prominent. Whether square or rectangular - the height is quickly defined. Ideally, a picture should always be hung at the viewer's eye level, which means that the center of the picture is at a height of 1.55 meters. If the artwork is hung above a sideboard or sofa, there should be a distance of 20 to 30 cm between the furniture surface and the bottom edge of the picture frame.

Hanging picture series - a question of order

Hanging a small collection of pictures quickly has a tendency to look restless and untidy - unless it is desired, such as in the "Petersburg hanging". Wealthy citizens of St. Petersburg displayed their wealth in this manner. Small walls lend themselves well to this staging of picture series, as the relatively small area provides visual order.

"Gallery owners and art connoisseurs pay attention to imaginary axes in the horizontal or vertical when hanging picture series," emphasizes David Halbe, managing director of HALBE-Rahmen GmbH. The pictures are often set in a square or rectangle on the wall in scene. Gladly 3, 5 or 7 color-coherent motives or styles with identical frames are selected, since our eye feels an odd number of pictures more pleasantly than an even one.

Classic gallery style hangings

A popular way of staging two works of art is the "perfect pair," meaning that two identically sized paintings are hung next to each other at the same height. For example, if a painting consists of several individual pictures, the "gallery look" is often the ideal hanging style, i.e. the pictures are hung in a row with as little spacing as possible so as not to lose the picture context. The distance between the pictures should be a maximum of 5 to 10 cm and depends on the picture sizes - small pictures require a smaller distance than large works of art.

In a series of pictures of different frame sizes, the artworks are aligned on the upper or lower edge of the frame. An imaginary center line is also possible. We speak of "edge hanging" when a large number of images are placed above and below an axis. The images are visually separated, but still playfully connected. This clever arrangement brings calm to the overall arrangement. "We recommend using picture frames in the same colour and profile for edge hanging. This creates a visual constant that also provides calm," says Davide Halbe.

Geometric arrangement - the high art

Works of art do not have to be arranged exclusively as if on a "string of pearls". The arrangement in an imaginary square or rectangle often attracts more the attention of the viewer. Piet Mondrian is one of the pioneers of abstract art. Characteristic of his works is the love of geometry, combining horizontal and vertical lines. Typical for him was the arrangement of one large, medium and two small paintings in the form of a rectangle.

In a classic trio hanging, one painting takes the leading role. By arranging two smaller pictures on the left or right vertical axis, the large picture is given more radiance.
