Background cardboard
- Order number: HK75W210210
Description
The background cardboard forms a border for a work of art that is not completely flat in the picture frame. It can be selected to match this colour. For example, black cardboard is often used for picture frames in black or picture frames in gold to create a stronger contrast and a clear boundary. A white or light gray background cardboard in combination with a light frame profile, e.g. a white picture frame or a picture frame in silver, usually goes well with light picture motifs. If you prefer a neutral shade of white, off-white is always a good choice. This shade is also very popular when using fine art papers.
The background cardboard can be used for mounting or fixing pictures or as a design element. Its paper-like structure harmonizes better than the hard foam board underneath it. The cardboard is made from the same material as a passepartout - only without the cut-out. HALBE uses only certified KLUG museum board for its background boards. This meets the highest conservation requirements. The cut can be up to 1680 x 2500 millimeters.

Background board FAQ
A background board is a high-quality museum board that can be used for mounting or fixing pictures. A smaller picture can be attached to the background board with adhesive tape, for example, so that it does not slip in the frame. It can also be used to subsequently fill the insertion depth of the picture frame so that the picture sits firmly in the frame between the glass and cardboard.
As the name suggests, the background cardboard lies behind the picture in the frame. It is used to fix a picture to it, for example with adhesive tape. A passepartout, on the other hand, is a cardboard cut out in the middle and placed in the frame between the glass and the picture, thus framing the picture.
Our background cardboard is available in three different thicknesses: 0.75 mm, 1.5 mm and 3 mm. How thick the cardboard needs to be depends on the application. Lightweight paper works can be mounted on thin background cardboard. They also fit into most picture frames with a shallow insertion depth (up to 2 mm).
A thicker cardboard may be more suitable for mounting heavier or particularly delicate works. Make sure that the insertion depth of the frame is sufficient for the cardboard and paper together.
