NEW: Conservo-Distance magnetic frame

Two become one: the optimal museum picture frame with distance

Kirchen, 27 Oct. 2020 - Beauty is fleeting - thousands of pictures and paintings prove otherwise. With the right framing and care they often last for centuries. In recent years, the focus of museums and art collectors has shifted significantly towards the prevention of art objects. HALBE - Framing has therefore further developed Conservo magnetic frame, which has proven its worth in European museums. Under the motto "Play it safe with a distance" the Conservo-Distance magnetic frame was developed, which combines the best of several frame variants. It offers optimal conservation conditions for flat works on paper that are particularly worthy of protection and slightly three-dimensional objects that are to be mounted plano or free-floating. Simple framing from above and magnetic spacer bars, in addition to a well thought-out design, are the distinguishing features of the new CONSERVO-DISTANCE frame.

Preserving works on paper worthy of protection

There are many high-quality works on paper by renowned artists that are worth preserving from possible damage. Many damages develop subtly and insidiously. By the time you can spot it with the naked eye, it's too late. In addition, soiling and damage can only be made invisible or retouched by restorers in tedious and painstaking detail work - museums and gallery owners as well as art collectors know this. Increasingly, art lovers are turning their attention to preserving the value of their collections and thus to preventing the loss of their art objects.

Conservo magnetic frame - perfect conservation conditions

Since 1946, HALBE 's undivided attention has been devoted to perfect conservation conditions. Each picture frame is made to the exact wishes and requirements of the customer according to the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. For some years now, the professionals have been increasingly asked to produce the Conservo magnetic frame with spacers, which has been tried and tested thousands of times in museums since 2012. Increasingly, curators wanted to present especially protectable corrugated handmade papers, artworks with thick paint application and three-dimensional works, such as documents with relief seals, plano or framed behind glass as a free-floating image montage without passepartout. David Halbe and his team recognized the trend and, together with leading European museums, further developed the CONSERVO series.

Conservo-Distance magnetic frame - two ideas combined

The Conservo-Distance magnetic frame is characterized by a special structure inside the frame, which ensures a distance between the glass and the back wall in combination with optimal conservation conditions. Unlike the CONSERVO frame, the rear wall of the CONSERVO-DISTANCE frame is not open, but is equipped with an anodized aluminum plate that is firmly fixed to the sheet metal angle composite. The anodized sheet ensures perfect flatness, closes the back of the frame and stabilizes the entire frame construction. This means that you do not necessarily need a stable and relatively thick rear panel made of Klug corrugated cardboard, but can work with thin museum cardboard and gain space inside the frame.

Magnetic spacer - safe and convenient handling

Based on the magnetic frame principle, each frame is loaded from HALBE from above, which per se makes the precise framing of artworks much easier and also saves time. Each CONSERVO-DISTANCE frame is equipped as standard with 5 or 10 mm high spacer bars on which the glass pane rests. The removable strips are magnetic, which makes it easy to load the frame with the artwork, mounting box or passepartout. Depending on the profile width, a filling height or insertion depth of 15 mm is possible. The recesses in the sheet metal angle compound facilitate, among other things, the removal of the precisely fitting spacers with two fingers or the removal of the glass pane without fingerprints. Basically, nothing is glued or permanently fixed in the magnetic frame.

Different glass qualities for optimal protection

HALBE-frames offers various glass qualities of the highest quality - regardless of whether white, museum or safety glass is required. The glass qualities differ essentially in their colour rendering, image brilliance, reflection, UV resistance and conservation properties. For conservation framing, anti-reflective museum glass with UV protection from Schott should be used, which guarantees a faithful representation of the works on paper with excellent contour sharpness and impressive contrasts with a UV protection of 82 percent. "For exhibits that are particularly worthy of protection, Optium Museum Acrylic glass from Tru Vue should be used. This is an acrylic glass from the USA for the highest requirements - in our opinion the best picture glass currently available on the market," says David Halbe, Managing Director of HALBE-Rahmen GmbH.

Sophisticated frame construction for perfect hanging

The CONSERVO-DISTANCE frame can be made in various aluminium and wooden profiles in any format from 13 x 13 cm to 120 x 140 cm. Basically, the frame has bevelled and straight hanging holes on the back, which facilitate single or two-point hanging. In addition, it is equipped with felt wall spacers to compensate for uneven walls. On request, the frame can be equipped with a picture lock to prevent unwanted opening (BS 1 R) and to fix it firmly to the wall (BS 4).
