The way to the perfect frame for your picture

Images evoke emotions and give rooms their own character

Kirchen, October 11, 2018 - Imagery is full of emotion and passion. Images move people and evoke memories. The most beautiful way to showcase a print, watercolor or photograph is to frame it. Through a coherent professional framing, a work of art can unfold its full expressiveness and give rooms their own character. In addition, the frame underlines the value of an art object. The unique magnetic frame principle of HALBE- Frames guarantees a lightning-fast framing of special works of art, cherished sketches or impressive photographs.

Not all frames are the same

Pictures and frames are not decorative elements that depend on the interior design or the colour curtains - at least not only. Regardless of whether they are figurative, impressionistic or expressionistic in style - they must captivate the viewer at first glance and arouse feelings. The frame gives a picture support - and that in a double sense. It helps the art object to unfold its charisma and to distinguish itself from its surroundings.

But before a picture is framed, there are three factors to consider: What kind of artwork is it? Where should the picture find its place later? What is the personal taste?

Basically, the frame should match the style of the art object. Pictures in pastel shades, watercolours or graphics should be framed in narrow strips of real wood or high-quality metal, so that the value of the work of art is underlined.

The colour of the moulding influences the message of the picture

The choice of the moulding colour is an art in itself, which needs to be considered carefully. First and foremost, the motif is decisive. The moulding colour should support the expression of a picture. Mouldings in natural oak show the finest wood grain and are timelessly beautiful. White lacquered frames lend a special radiance to colourful motifs. Black mouldings, on the other hand, are particularly suitable for black and white photographs and charcoal sketches. Currently, thin picture frames in silver, black, grey and gold are very trendy.

The passepartout completes the framing under glass

The use of a passepartout for framing under glass is an important stylistic device and is one of the most original forms of picture presentation. Drawings and watercolours in particular require protection from the glass, which is guaranteed by the cardboard thickness of the passepartout. Small pictures in the format under 10 x 10 cm require a disproportionate passepartout, so that the viewer's eye is drawn to them. The colour and structure of the passepartout cardboard should be carefully selected to suit the art object. You basically can't go wrong with a white cardboard. A slightly muted old white is particularly suitable for "older" pictures and black and white photographs. Tip: The colour of the passepartout should be a shade darker or more yellow than the paper of the picture. This makes the picture look whiter, fresher and newer.

The cutting technique of the passepartout should also not be underestimated. Diagonally cut passepartout edges look particularly elegant. Unusual framing, such as using a passepartout in landscape format in a portrait format frame, exudes a certain charm. "Care must be taken to ensure that the framing never dominates the picture, so that the owner can enjoy his work of art for a long time," emphasizes David Halbe, Managing Director of HALBE-Rahmen GmbH. "We therefore only use certified mounts from Klug-Conservation, which are acid-free and age-resistant."

The magnetic frame principle allows framing from above

As the well-known saying goes "a rolling stone gathers no moss", the professionals at HALBE-frames are always on the lookout for ways to optimise the framing of pictures. One particular innovation is the development of the HALBE magnetic frame principle, which is the basis for all of today's frames from HALBE. With conventional frames, you usually place the passepartout with the picture upside down on the glass in the frame - but this is not particularly comfortable. If there is a speck of dust on the picture, or the picture is not exactly in the right place, the frame has to be opened again. Framing a picture from the front is much easier and more convenient. Thanks to the magnetic opening and closing of the frame, unique pictures and documents can be framed in a flash without any tools. An even glass print ensures that the picture and passe-partout lie flat.
