Description
The background cardboard creates a border for an exhibit which is not entirely filling the frame. The colour can be selected accordingly. It can either be used for mounting or fixating pictures or simply as a design element. Its paper-like structure is suited much better than the rigid foam board underneath. The cardboard consists of the same material as a passe-partout – only without cut-out. For its background cardboards HALBE uses only certified KLUG museum cardboard to meet even the highest conservation demands. The cutting can be up to 1680 x 2500 millimetres.

Background cardboard FAQ
A background board is a high-quality museum board that can be used to mount or fix pictures. A smaller picture can be fixed to the background cardboard, e.g. with adhesive tape, so that it does not slip in the frame. It can also be used to fill the depth of the picture frame afterwards, so that the picture sits firmly in the frame between the glass and the cardboard.
As the name suggests, the background board lies behind the picture in the frame. It is used to fix a picture to it, for example with adhesive tape. A passe-partout, on the other hand, is a piece of cardboard cut out in the middle of the frame between the glass and the picture, thus framing the picture.
Our background cardboard is available in three different thicknesses: 0.75 mm, 1.5 mm and 3 mm. How thick the cardboard needs to be depends on the use. Light paper works can be mounted on thin background cardboard. They also fit into most picture frames with a shallow insertion depth (up to 2 mm).
For mounting heavier or particularly delicate works, thicker cardboard may be more suitable. Make sure that the insertion depth of the frame is sufficient for cardboard and paper together.
