PLIERS MOUNTED FREELY
Mounting objects in the DISTANCE frame
Not only pictures can be presented in the HALBE DISTANCE magnetic frame, but also small three-dimensional objects. In this way, objects can be artistically staged, placed on the wall or protected. Using the example of a farewell gift for a colleague, we show how even a pipe wrench can be staged and framed as a work of art. With a little hot glue, it floats completely invisibly in the frame.
Tools:
- Steel ruler
- Hot glue gun
- Drill
Here's how it works:
1. Prepare
Lay out all the utensils required for assembly and carefully open the DISTANCE frame. Also remove the glass and spacer bars.
2. Measure out
Now place the pliers in the desired position. Measure the distance to all outer edges to ensure that it is neatly positioned.
Accessories:
- Neschen Gudy Dot 831
- Hot glue
13. Framing
Place the overframe back on the element and press the frame lightly. The magnetic frame closes easily and quickly thanks to our magnetic principle.
14. Ready
Done! This mounting method in the DISTANCE D20 magnetic frame is ideal for insensitive objects up to about 18mm thick. Since the pliers are made of metal, we could have glued strong magnets to the cardboard. Depending on the surface and strength of the objects may need to use a different adhesive.
Required utensils
Buy used articles in the shop
Optional utensils:
- Gloves
- Hand brush
- Remaining piece of cardboard
3. Create space
In our case, the pliers are a little too thick for the possible distance of the frame. So that it does not touch the glass and can be well fixed, we had to drill a small hole in the background cardboard for the connecting rivet - the thickest point of the pliers. To do this, we pressed the rivet of the precisely positioned pliers firmly on the cardboard, marking the spot. We carefully drilled the hole. Alternatively, it also works with a hole punch or a knife.
6. Insert the background cardboard
Carefully place the background cardboard in the base element and press it on well. Then insert the spacer bars.
5. Prepare the back wall
After you have freed the pliers from the remains of glue, it's time to get serious. Since the pliers are heavy, we need to glue the background cardboard to the back wall of the frame. To do this, apply two long strips of Neschen Gudy Dot 831 double-sided tape and peel off the protective film.
4. Test trial
We deliberately opted for assembly with hot glue. It fills large gaps, can be applied quickly and, above all, can be removed from the pliers without leaving any residue.
9. Gluing
Now you have to be quick! Once you have applied the hot glue, place the pliers exactly in position on the cardboard. It is important that this is done in one go and that the object is not moved after insertion, otherwise residue will remain on the cardboard.
8. Apply hot glue
Now it's time to carefully apply the hot glue to the object! The test run has shown you how much glue you need for a sufficient hold. Apply the glue to the thickest parts. Additionally, we applied some glue to one leg to prevent twisting.
7. Mark
Place your object in the frame again and check the exact position once more. To make sure that the distance to both edges is the same, you should also measure exactly with a tape measure. Mark the exact position, for example with the help of two strips of paper.
11. Dusting
Carefully remove dust and foreign bodies with a hand brush.
12. Insert the glass
Now place the glass on the spacer bars. To avoid fingerprints, you should either use gloves or only touch the glass carefully at the edges.
10. Press firmly
As soon as the pliers are placed in the right place, press them firmly with proper pressure. After a short time, the adhesive has cooled down and reached its maximum stability.
Tip
To get a better feel for gluing with hot glue, we recommend a test run on a remnant piece of cardboard in advance. This will give you a feel for the required amount of adhesive and processing speed. Especially when mounting on a unique piece - the signed background cardboard - this is helpful, because there is only one try.
