PICTURE FRAMES FOR THE BIG PERFORMANCE
XXL picture frames hanging safely
The hanging of large picture frames is often a challenge. How to find the perfect place and how to mount an XXL picture frame correctly? In our example we use a picture frame in the size 1,80 x 3 meters. This classic magnetic frame is an aluminium 18 profile in white with a 6 mm Optium glass, thus with an especially light, anti-reflective acrylic glass with UV protection. This glass is advantageous, as a picture frame with normal glass would be too heavy and can no longer be moved without a crane. In addition, the Optium glass is unbreakable and thus offers additional protection. The picture weighs approximately 70 kilos in its entirety and therefore requires a particularly stable suspension.
The mounting of XXL picture frames involves some special features that you must take into account. A hanging with only two single screws is usually not possible, because the working load is not sufficient depending on the wall condition. In our case, the screws in the gas concrete wall only carry a weight of approximately 15 kilograms. Therefore we use special heavy load hooks, which are attached with several screws and can carry up to 75 kg per hook. Please note that different combinations of screws, dowels and above all the condition of the walls have different load capacities. Please be sure to refer to the manufacturer's load tables.
Optional utensils:
- drilling template for picture frames
- vacuum cleaner
- gloves
Tools:
- laser
- tape measure
- spirit level
- drill
- hammer
- pencil
- screws and dowels
- stepladder
Here's how it works:
1. Preparation
Get your tools and accessories ready so you can have everything within reach later.
2. Determining the height
Use a line laser to mark the height at which the upper edge of the frame will later be located. In our case, the upper edge is 245.8 cm (half the height of the outer format of the frame 90.8 cm + 155 cm). Please make sure that the frame has enough space downwards.
3. Marking the hole position
Use the drilling template to mark with a pencil where the angle hook should be attached. To do this, take the hole position of the frame and transfer it to the wall.
7. Mark drilling holes for angle hooks
Determine the position of the heavy-duty hooks using the marked hole position and use the pencil to mark the drill holes in which the screw is to be inserted. In our case we use 5 screws per angle.
8. Drilling
Now drill the previously marked holes with a drill.
4. Use drilling template
The easiest way to mark the hole position is to use the drilling template. The angle hook is 2 mm smaller than the hole in the frame. Therefore, move the hook 1 mm inwards.
5. Very important
Use the hanging holes on the vertical sheet angles. These have a much higher load capacity than the hanging holes in the horizontal angles and leave enough space upwards for the heavy duty hooks.
6. Check measurements and distances
In the meantime, check repeatedly that the measurements are maintained and correspond.
Accessories:
- heavy-duty hooks
- screws and dowels suitable for the wall
- drilling template BS4
- special key for BS4
- picture lock BS4
10. Hanging XL picture frames
Now attach the picture to the wall by hanging it on the heavy-duty hooks. Due to its size and weight, it is necessary to work with several people.
11. Secure XL frame
To additionally protect the picture from falling down, we recommend to install a picture lock. This is done with the BS4 picture lock. Mark and drill the holes of the picture lock and hit the dowels into the holes with the hammer.
12. Attaching the picture lock
Now fasten the picture lock with the supplied screws and lock the picture lock with the special key after hanging up the picture.
9. Mounting
Use the hammer to knock the dowels into the holes and then tighten the heavy-duty hooks.
13. Ready
The mounting of your XXL picture frame is easy and safe with this variant. Your work of art is optimally protected by the picture lock and the large picture can be shown off in its full splendour.
Tip
Hold a vacuum cleaner under the drill to avoid unnecessary dust. If you encounter resistance in the wall, simply use another hole from the angle plate.
Required utensils
Purchase used articles in the shop
Tip
As a guideline for the hanging, you can record: The center of your image should be placed at eye level to always have a perfect view of the image. Hang the image with the center at about 1.55 meters.
Tip
You can find detailed instructions for the mounting of picture locks here.
Tip
Use Post it's to mark the outer edges of the frame. This serves as a simple orientation to hang the frame straight. Use the drilling template for this.
