A passepartout is a high-quality cardboard cut out in the middle. It is placed in a picture frame between the picture and the glass and further separates the picture from the frame. The picture thus has room to unfold and is visually enhanced.
In order for it to develop its full effect, a passepartout should not be too narrow. As a rule of thumb, we recommend that the width of a passepartout should be approx. 10-12% of the longer side of the picture. For a 40 x 50 cm picture, the passepartout border would therefore be 5 - 6 cm.
