Single pane safety glass protects pictures from damage through knocks or any other type of impact thanks to its particularly robust nature. It is also designed to minimise risk if the glass should break through excessive force. The pane will then disintegrate into tiny pieces without any sharp edges, thereby avoiding injury and damage.
As with standard glass, iron oxide gives single pane safety glass a faint green tint. Completely faithful colour reproduction will not be attained in paper works.
Safety glass is also available in two versions – brilliant or with one side matt/one side brilliant.
Single pane safety glass is 4 millimetres thick and thermally toughened. Its weight is between common glass types and double pane safety glass. The safety markings are stamped on the glass edge along the side and not visible from the front.
Single pane safety glass has a relatively low level of protection against UV rays, so it is not suitable for conservationist framings.
Single pane safety glass is relatively robust and can be cleaned easily with water or common glass cleaning fluid.
