The history of the origin and development of HALBE

In the June 2016 issue, the IHK published an article in its journal about HALBE under the title „Alles-im-Rahmen!" (Everything in the frame, or within the scope). In it, author Oliver Rohrbach outlines the genesis and development history of the company and its product up to the novelty of Alu4.

"We continue to evolve with the demands of the art world while keeping up with new technologies", Halbe says.

The timeless design, quality and ease of use of the frames have been the hallmarks of the no-frills picture frames for decades, according to Halbe. And it is precisely this that is not only well received by customers. The medium-sized company received its first award for high design quality in 1995. Further awards followed over the years. The most recent was the German Design Award for the Alu4 magnetic frame, which is particularly slim and filigree. The profile is almost flush with the glass pane - creating the impression of an almost flat surface. In this way, pictures are presented discreetly and impressively.

It all began 70 years ago at the kitchen table, when Hubert Halbe produced the first frames in his bookshop on Bahnhofsstraße in Kirchen in the small frame workshop attached to the kitchen table. Frameless picture carriers then went into series production from 1960 onwards. The "Herrenwiese" became the new location in 1983 with its own large hall. Son Heinrich Halbe had already been working in his father's company for a few years and during this time introduced the frame with which HALBE made a name for itself: The magnetic frame, which is still unique today, makes it easy to change pictures.

Even though modern technology has found its way into production, the frames are still handled by hand. "Especially the last work steps require a high degree of experience and sensitivity", Halbe says. "Because the highest quality and durability is one of our strengths".
A strength that will certainly be in demand for decades to come.
