Die Lübecker galerie team K. präsentiert eine fotografische
Dokumentation von Marcus Bredt
In the midst of Lübeck Museum Night 2025, which was held under the theme “Where freedom begins...”, Galerie team K. opened its doors at the historic Fischstraße 18. The opening featured the profound exhibition “Hinter-Räume der Demokratie” (Back Rooms of Democracy) with photographs by Marcus Bredt. The exhibition, an invitation to visual reflection, will remain on display until January 2026.
The art project “Hinter-Räume” (Behind Rooms) pursues the fascinating ambition of looking behind familiar facades, refining the supposedly mundane in its pure form, and revealing the often overlooked self-evident aspects of existence. Marcus Bredt draws attention to places that are otherwise hidden or appear inconspicuous, documenting their often installation-like, quiet appearance.

The pragmatic location of choice
The current presentation forms the second chapter of this ongoing project. It focuses on spaces that once or temporarily housed important institutions – social structures that organize and govern human interaction. The character of these spaces can be as formal or informal as the institutions themselves. In every case, it is their deeply rooted purpose that defines their function.
This chapter begins with the powerful series “Polling Stations.”
For this work, Marcus Bredt visited and photographed over 25 polling stations during the state elections in Hamburg on March 2, 2025. These simple, often functional rooms in buildings of various purposes were temporarily transformed, through an enormous organizational effort, into sacred, institutional places that are indispensable for the essential functioning of a democracy. They are the stage for the democratic process, reduced to the bare essentials.

The overall project: Back rooms
According to those involved in the project, the entire project is divided into chapters that are continuously supplemented and expanded with new, discovered locations. The project kicked off with the “Back Rooms of the Enlightenment” at the Museum of Natural History in Berlin.
There, rooms and activities that normally remain hidden from the public were documented—a glimpse into the architecture of knowledge.
“Hinter-Räume” is an art project curated and realized by Marcus Bredt, Anke Kraemer, and Hendrik Sichler. Interested parties are cordially invited to view this fascinating photographic documentation and rediscover the invisible backdrops of our society.
Frames from the CLASSIC Wood 10 model in white maple were used for the exhibition.
