The somewhat different view of nature

Our nature is a jewel, worth protecting and unique. And often it is small details that make this beauty visible. Large format images with extreme sharpness of detail create just these breathtaking, awe-inspiring moments. Just as if you were standing in the midst of nature.

The internationally renowned photo artist couple Daniel & Geo Fuchs brings us closer to this sharpness of detail with their series "Nature & Destruction". It is not alone the beauty, but also the destruction of nature. For this they have deliberately chosen a not everyday image format - the XXL format. This format allows a unique depth of detail that would otherwise be impossible to realize. A large-format robotic camera, originally developed by Google and NASA for the Mars mission, provides the image material. The robot generates a thousand images, which are later superimposed, followed by heavy post-processing on the computer. The focus is on the artificiality that all the images have in common. Thus, the photo artists always balance on the border between a realistic depiction of nature and its artistic abstraction.

Unique colouring and extreme image sharpness

The works, some of which are up to five meters in size, fascinate with their violet, petrol, and orange tones and contribute to the fictional atmosphere that characterizes the works. Combined with an extreme image depth, the viewing becomes particularly realistic.

At the beginning of her work, she has to conduct long, meticulous research. Which place, which region comes into question, where could the right motif be found? Then they get started. They stop wherever they like, because they usually find the motifs out of the car window. Often at unknown, but due to the heavy technical equipment, reachable places.

The choice of the right frame

For the "Nature & Destruction" series, Daniel & Geo Fuchs chose CONSERVO magnetic frames in Alu 18, black. The particularly elegant and simple design of the frames fits ideally into the composition of the picture and thus brings the motifs to the fore. Because the frame and the picture are an integral part of the work, they allow the viewer to look through a panoramic window into the alien world of nature.

With "Luis" exactly this impression of the panorama window has been realized. Due to the size and the associated weight, this XXL format brings with it special technical challenges. HALBE frames are ideal for the project because they have a very high dimensional accuracy and the exact suspension points enable perfect row hanging. And the frames can still be transported and moved in the size - with effort, of course.

The work "Luis" consists of 3 pictures a 1920 x 1080 mm

In the end, XXL formats need a lot of wall space and a large room area to be effective, which is why Daniel & Geo Fuchs also create medium and small formats from 1080 x 1810 mm to 800 x 1190 mm.

The images shown were created in the Cologne gallery Martina Kaiser and in the Galerie von Braunbehrens Stuttgart. The works were also on display at the Munich Gallery at the Pinakothek der Moderne / Barbara Ruetz. From 03.03. to 15.04.2023, the series of works "Nature & Destruction" can be admired and purchased in Berlin at the gallery nüüd.berlin.
