An autobiographical work

Katharina Jaeger's photographs address the hopelessness of wanting a child and the powerlessness in the face of medicine and one's own body. By photographing empty medication packaging, she processes the failures of artificial insemination. These symbolize lost hope and inner emptiness. The exhibition was on display at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

Jaeger approaches the subject autobiographically and uses packaging from medical products that were used to prepare her body for pregnancy. By photographically staging these empty containers, she artistically regains some control over a process that she perceived as powerless.

Her photographs play with perception: the flat packaging, arranged on a paper-white background, appears three-dimensional due to the staging. This illusion reflects the emotional fallacies caused by hormonal treatments. The packages, once symbols of hope, are transformed into symbols of a deep, perceived emptiness.
