An exhibition of the ABURY Foundation

Between the 14th of February to the 7th of March, the ABURY Foundation hosted the exhibition PortrAid – Get art. Give work. at the DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum in Berlin. The 38 photographs by the well-known photographer Xiomara Bender show weavers in Ethiopia. With the proceeds from the photographs, the organisation intends to purchase a new loom for each person portrayed. This is intended to improve conditions for local artisans. The ABURY Foundation has set itself the task of using photographs to highlight grievances. This authentic photo series once again impressively succeeds in doing so.

The human being in the center

The human being is clearly in the foreground in Xiomara Bender's photo series. A direct relationship between the portrayed and the viewer is created and thus promotes empathy. Every visitor can purchase a photograph and thus become active. With the proceeds, they support exactly the person they are looking at in the picture. Thus the weavers receive a new loom through the sale of the photos. The situation on the spot shall be improved for the craftsmen as well as for their families. The photo series is presented stylishly in HALBE frames.
