"55 chapters": A visual interpretation of "Spring snow"

On the occasion of the final presentation of the graduates of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, interested art lovers had the opportunity to visit the exhibition of graduate Nils Dunkel, among others, in room 001 of the Kunstakademie between January 31 and February 4, 2024.

About the exhibition at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf

In the cross-room installation "55 chapters", Nils Dunkel visualizes the 55 chapters of Yukio Mishima's novel "Spring snow". For this purpose, images from Nils Dunkel's personal archive are tattooed with historical textured rollers and black ink. The originally black-and-white motifs are finally immersed in a new mood by 55 luminous color filter foils, which blur the layers and bring them to life with their water-like surface.

About the artist Nils Dunkel

Nils Dunkel, who was born in Austria in 1990, began his artistic career as a self-taught artist. In his early twenties, the young artist wrote his first book and designed magazines. His unusual designs quickly gained him attention within the world of fashion.

He began his artistic training at the Academy of Arts in Munich in 2017, when he initially decided to study sculpture. A year later, however, Dunkel decided to transfer to the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf to study with Rita McBride, where he eagerly pursues the use of traditional materials and methods in innovative ways.

Since then, his works have been presented in several exhibitions both in Germany and Austria. Readers interested in further insights into the artist's past exhibitions can find more information on his website.
