Exhibition Walter Schels in Stuttgart
The great photographer Walter Schels is presented to the art world for the first time by ABTART Stuttgart. Over 200 of his works will be shown, including photographs of celebrities such as Josef Beuys, Andy Warhol and the Dalai Lama, but also portraits of transsexuals, newborns, the dying, as well as people in the park and animals. The exhibition was curated by Klaus Honnef. The frames used were CLASSIC magnetic frames, Alu 14 in black matt with anti-reflective glass.
Walter Schels
Born in Landshut in 1936, Walter Schels started as a window dresser and went to New York in 1966 to become a photographer. In the meantime he enjoys a high international reputation in the photography scene, has worked for many magazines, including "Stern", is a member of the Freie Akademie der Künste Hamburg and an honorary member of the BFF (Berufsverband Freie Fotografen und Filmgestalter e.V.). In the art scene, however, he is so far rather unknown. Yet as a conceptual artist he is ahead of his time: his extensive life's work has been created in series and sequences over decades and will be presented for the first time on this scale in the exhibition "WALTER SCHELS Fotografie".

The exhibition of Walter Schels was curated by the freelance curator, art critic and author Klaus Honnef. The theorist of artistic photography coined the term "auteur photography" and helped photography to gain artistic recognition. He has published numerous books on contemporary painting and photography and is the author of the world bestsellers "Contemporary Art" and "Andy Warhol". His shows have been shown at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, the Deutsches Historisches Museum Berlin, the Gropius Haus in Berlin and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.
Exhibition „WALTER SCHELS Photography“
Due to the great interest in the exhibition, it has been extended and can be seen until 29.12.2017 at the ABTART Gallery in Stuttgart.
