An artistic juxtaposition in the Levantehaus in Hamburg

In January and February, the artist couple Stephanie and Thomas Hartstang presented a particularly exciting juxtaposition of these two artistic forms of expression with their exhibition concept "Watercolor and Photography in Dialogue" in the gallery of the Levantehaus in Hamburg. The impressive works were framed in picture frames by HALBE .

Stephanie Hartstang is a passionate expressive watercolor artist, whereas her husband's passion lies in photography. In the joint exhibition, the different artistic styles are juxtaposed in fascinating pairs.

Her pairs of paintings focus on different regions and travel experiences. The north of Germany with its harbor cities, the characteristic landscapes of Angeln and the Schlei region are reflected in numerous works. In addition, trips abroad, including to Hong Kong, but also to the Dolomites, Ireland or the Emmental, served as inspiration for dialogs and individual works. The variety of impressions from different regions formed a rich source of inspiration for the artist couple.

Before the "Watercolor and Photography in Dialogue" project was launched, the two artists had already been working professionally for several years, albeit in different ways. One morning in the summer of 2020 at 2.50 a.m., the photograph "Containerstapel" was created. The watercolor artist then decided to turn her husband's photograph into a painting.

This was the birth of "Painting and Photography in Dialogue". Since then, the two artists have regularly selected motifs for their "dialog pairs" and are constantly working on new works, which are presented in renowned galleries and museums.
