Preserving art

Mirco honeycomb panel for optimized conservation framing from HALBE

Preserving art

Kirchen, 22. April 2024 – In recent years, the demands on framing and mountings have steadily increased. International museums, galleries and collectors in particular are paying great attention to the preventive protection of art objects - preserving their value is a top priority. In collaboration with leading conservators, HALBE-Rahmen (www.halbe-rahmen.de) has developed the CONSERVO, CONSERVO DISTANCE and PROTECT magnetic frames. All magnetic frames allow framing from the front and meet the highest conservation requirements. From now on, the individually made-to-measure frames will be supplied with the newly developed Mirco honeycomb cardboard from KLUG-CONSERVATION. The natural white honeycomb board on both sides has extreme compressive strength and optimum flatness.

Protection of paper works

Every picture tells a story - regardless of whether it is an old master or a young artist. In order to protect impressive sketches, graphics or 3D works from irreversible damage, for example, not only stylish but also conservational framing is required.

HALBE frames: Highest quality for a long service life

David Halbe and his team are aware of the great responsibility involved in framing small and large works of art. The professionals are constantly working on optimizing the individual magnetic frames. Each frame is unique and is manufactured to the highest quality standards at the production site in Kirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate.

Whether CONSERVO, CONSERVO DISTANCE or PROTECT magnetic frames - in addition to simple framing from the front, all frame types are characterized by a special design for framing paper works that are particularly worthy of protection. Established museums, such as the Sprengel Museum in Hanover, the Historical Museum in Frankfurt and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, value HALBE's expertise and use the high-quality frames for their temporary exhibitions.

New: Conservation frames with micro honeycomb panel

In order to further optimize the properties of the various frame types from HALBE, the tried and tested 6.6 mm corrugated cardboard is being replaced by the newly developed 7.0 mm micro honeycomb cardboard (honeycomb 079) from KLUG-CONSERVATION. The honeycomb board is made of age-resistant cardboard with an alkaline buffer. No optical brighteners were used in the production of the natural white cardboard on both sides. It is FSC® - Forest Stewardship Council - certified, i.e. made with virgin fiber cellulose from controlled sustainable forestry and trade. Micro honeycomb cardboard meets the criteria of the DIN EN ISO 9706 standard and is PAT tested.

Compared to corrugated cardboard, the new honeycomb cardboard is characterized by improved stability. The micro honeycombs ensure extreme compressive strength and a flat surface. "The use of the new micro honeycomb board further improves our conservation quality standards," emphasizes David Halbe, Managing Director of HALBE-Rahmen GmbH.

The newly developed micro honeycomb cardboard from KLUG-CONSERVATION has even greater stability, better compressive strength and optimum flatness compared to the tried and tested corrugated cardboard.

About HALBE-Rahmen:
Since 1946, the Halbe family's undivided attention has belonged to the perfect frames for lithographs, paintings and photographs. Over the decades, Hubert Halbe's small workshop has developed into one of the world's leading quality manufacturers of picture frames. At the production site in Kirchen in Rhineland-Palatinate, every frame is manufactured to the highest quality standards and with the craftsmanship of the almost 60 employees. In 1973, HALBE-Rahmen GmbH (www.halbe-rahmen.de) developed the magnetic frame principle, which forms the basis for all frames. It allows pictures to be easily and conveniently framed and exchanged from the front. Now in its third generation, the company supplies picture frames to museums, public institutions, industrial companies, photographers and private households.
