Unique picture frames: The magnetic frame principle
Thanks to the HALBE principle for magnetic opening and closing, invented by Heinrich HALBE in 1973 and proven millions of times over, framing and changing pictures is quick, easy and accurate - without any tools at all.
Unlike conventional picture frame frames, all HALBE magnetic frames allow you to insert your pictures from the front: without twisting and turning, without clamps, springs or corner connectors. This makes fun!

HALBE frames are possible from 130 x 130 mm to 2000 x 3000 mm. There is a wide range of standard sizes for picture frames. In addition to the DIN formats, popular standard sizes for picture frames are available according to the picture proportions in 4:5, 4:3, 3:2, 1:1 or 16:9 format. You can find more information under our picture frame size overview.
If you want to insert your picture without a border, the size of the paper is the order size. It corresponds to the dimension (glass size) in the frame configurator. With Passepartout you can have a suggestion displayed in the configurator or enter your desired dimensions to the millimetre. Tips on how to do this can be found in the knowledge section under designing picture frames.
You have the choice between picture frames made of aluminium and high-quality wooden frames. A total of 15 different picture frames colours are available. You can get a complete overview on our profile and colour. Here we show you how to design your suitable picture frame also with regard to colour.
Best colour rendering and reflection-free view on the picture offer you our anti-reflective glasses, partly also with high UV protection. We recommend non-glare glass opposite of windows. For the inexpensive entry normal glass. Further information about picture glass can be found here.
There are picture frames with and without space between the picture and the glass, types for special conservation requirements and fire-protection picture frames. You can find a comparison of the types under Magnetic frame types.
We produce most variants in usually less than a week after receiving your order. For some types of frames or for larger projects, it may take a little longer. Please contact us if you are in a hurry or need express delivery.
For a comfortable and accurate framing, the picture is usually covered all around by the passepartout by a few millimetres. As a rule of thumb, the width of the passepartout should be approximately 10% of the size of the longer side of the picture (e.g. 400 x 500 mm picture size = approx. 50 mm border width). The magnetic frame principle describes the simple and quick opening and closing of the picture frames from the front. You can find more information and a video under the magnetic frame principle.
The insertion depth defines, so to speak, the available space within the frame, i.e. the "thickness" of the picture and, if required, the passepartout. By default, each frame is prepared for a material thickness of maximum 2 mm. In the frame configurator, you can optionally increase this value - the advisor under "Insertion depth" in the configurator will support you in this.
Picture frames made to measure: whether small or large picture frames
For HALBE it goes without saying that every frame has its own requirements and therefore grants customers the best possible flexibility in the selection of frame sizes through our frame configurator.
Choose from common standard formats or specify your individual dimensions to the millimetre. Especially with works of art and originals, the picture frame must fit the picture perfectly. Mounts can also be ordered individually and freely configured. The smallest format starts at 130 x 130 mm.
In our online shop you can order picture frames up to a size of 1200 x 1400 mm. For the very large requirements, we also offer large formats up to 2 x 3 meters on request. Whether small or large picture frames, at HALBE you get frames in different sizes.

Picture frame material: aluminium or wood
High quality picture frames are either made of aluminium or solid wood. At HALBE you get both! Choose from nine different profile and moulding widths as well as 18 different colours and wood types.
Aluminium frames are particularly robust and have a modern and somewhat cooler look than wooden frames. In the classic colours matt silver, matt black or matt white, aluminium frames are above all timeless and go with almost all picture motifs.
Those who like it a little cosier and warmer like to fall back on wooden frames. The natural woods oak, maple and ash go particularly well with nature photographs. The grains, some of which are full of character, give the wooden interchangeable frame and the picture additional structure. They are also available in different light and dark brown tones, in white or black.
Plastic frames and floating frames are not part of our assortment. Instead, our CLASSIC magnetic frame is wonderfully suitable as a poster frame.
